Breast reconstruction
It's a surgery indicated to women who suffered partial or total loss of breasts, which generally occurrs after breast cancer treatment. However, patients who had suffered burns, infections, traumas or even congenital deformities may also need breast reconstruction.
There are several types of breast reconstruction. In cases of total loss of breast, the reconstruction is performed using the patient own tissues from the abdomen (skin and fat), or using silicone implants or expanders. The breast reconstruction can be made at the time of the mastectomy (the removal of breasts) or at a later time, months or years after the surgery.
In cases of partial loss of breast, the reconstruction is usually made at the time of the surgery that wil remove the mammary injuries using breast reduction techniques.
